Inauguration of RO Water Plant at Sinhapada, Sigiriya Rock Fortress
On August 21, 2024, the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E. Santosh Jha, inaugurated a Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Plant at Sinhapada, located within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sigiriya Rock Fortress. The event was attended by the Director General of the Central Cultural Fund, the Deputy Chief Secretary of the Central Province, and representatives from the Department of Trade, Commerce, and Tourism of the Central Province, along with other government officials.
The RO Water Plant has been officially handed over to the Central Cultural Fund under the Department of Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs. The Government of India has also committed to covering the maintenance costs of the facility for the next five years.
This RO Water Plant will serve the thousands of visitors who come to Sigiriya from around the world, providing them with safe drinking water. This assistance underscores India’s ongoing commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s growth and progress across various sectors.
